Dungeons of Misrule is a full cast production of a tabletop roleplaying adventure in the cyberpunk genre. Three improvisers take on the role of punks raging against the machine, while another team of three actors portray the monsters and weirdos they come across. Unlike other tabletop games, the show is played “on its feet.” Actors move around the stage and throw together wacky costumes while the audience rolls the dice, plays “glitches” on the characters, and even jumps up to portray some of the enemies!

About Dungeons of Misrule
Dungeons of Misrule is an interactive theatrical concept from Lords of Misrule Theatre Co. This is the show’s second year, and this year the theme is “Cyberpunk.” Picture a futuristic city overrun by megacorporations and a bunch of fringers chromed up with cybernetic enhancements.

In the show, three actors play the “player characters.” The audience creates these characters for the players right before the show stars, with help from the Game Master and a fistful of dice. If the player characters die (and they will,) they run backstage and throw together a new costume for the next audience-generated character.

Three other actors portray the “non-player characters,” the other enemies in the world. Audience members might even have the chance to jump up and portray the enemies during the show! The Game Master narrates the adventure and calls on the audience to roll the dice to see if the players succeed at whatever they try to do.

Additionally, the audience can donate money to “glitch” the game. Some of these can be curses, like forcing a character to only speak in one-syllable words, or they can be boons, like giving a character a lucky hat they can use to completely block an attack.

The money donated will be split between the cast and Genderbands, a local nonprofit that assists transgender people with gender affirming care and associated costs.

About Lords of Misrule Theatre Co
Lords of Misrule Theatre Co formed unofficially in 2019 with the closure of The Road Home shelter in downtown Salt Lake City. A group of friends from the Salt Lake Community College theatre program got together and devised a unique show based on mutual-aid and community support. The show was called The Lord of Misrule and it pioneered the donation based theater model they continue to use today. Instead of buying a ticket, the audience donates money to a charitable cause or community aid group to change how the actors have to perform the show. Lords of Misrule shows have raised money for The Road Home, Our Unsheltered Relatives, The U of U Prison Education Project, AAMP Utah, and Save The Kids Group.
Lords of Misrule Theatre Co is part of AAMP Utah, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting alternative arts and music with a focus on access. The theater company holds no-cost improv and acting classes every Saturday from 2-4pm at Mark of the Beastro. More info at www.misruletheatre.com

About Genderbands
“Genderbands' mission is to help transgender and nonbinary people pay for transition related costs, which we do through our yearly Transition Grants. These grants can help pay for medical and surgical transition, as well as legal fees for correcting vital records (such as government ID and birth certificates) or costs involved in social transition (like hair cuts, gender affirming clothing, etc). We also have a free chest binder program for folks who can travel to our office in Orem.
How can you support Genderbands? Volunteer, buy merch, donate directly, or come to Trans Pride-N-Joy Fest August 10th! It's a FREE festival held in Utah County that is a celebration of the trans and nonbinary community, with trans/nonbinary performers, vendors, and resources for the community. This is our 5th year doing the fest, although it was previously called Utah Trans Pride, and for 2 years it was online only due to Covid. Both Genderbands and Trans Pride-N-Joy Fest are largely volunteer run, so even if you can spare an hour or two every week we welcome the help! If you don't have spare time to give, you can also directly donate to Genderbands, or buy our merch! We have tee shirts, pins, wristbands, and gender affirming clothing. Part of all merchandise sales go directly to the Transition Grant Fund. More info at: https://www.genderbands.org/
