In this in-person workshop, we welcome you to a clear, practical, and fully interactive space to better understand your child’s IEP. We’ll alternate brief explanations with activities: we’ll start with a simple overview of what an IEP is, how it’s organized, and why it’s important; at the same time, we’ll apply what we cover directly to your own IEP. We’ll look at how to create SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) with examples and immediate practice, and we’ll assess whether current goals meet these criteria, helping you prepare questions, suggestions, or drafts you can present to the school’s IEP team.
Our family support and special education team will be by your side throughout the workshop to provide personalized support, answer questions, and help you leave with concrete next steps for school.
Goal: for you to leave with clarity, practical tools, and greater confidence to advocate for your child’s educational needs. We look forward to seeing you!
What to bring: your child’s IEP (printed or digital).
Who can attend: parents and caregivers. NO CHILDREN.
Note: We do not make official changes to the IEP; decisions are made by the IEP school team.
The workshop will be conducted in English and in person.
This workshop is for Monterey County residents only.
