Oakland California based, Rio de Janeiro native, Grammy Nominated, Marcos Silva, (composer, multi-instrumentalist, educator) has extensive performance history with household names in Brazilian music including Flora Purim, Airto Moreira (he was their music director for 24 years), Paquito D’Rivera, Leny Andrade, Emilio Santiago, Marcio Montarroyos, Jon Lucien, Claudio Roditi, Dori Caymmi, Nana Caymmi, Danilo Caymmi, Edu Lobo and Romero Lubambo, among an even longer roster including exciting contemporary Brazilian guitarist, Chico Pinheiro. Given his experience touring internationally with fellow Brazilian artists and interactions with Jazz luminaries, Marcos’ amiability and stories behind compositions have proven to be fun and fascinating for audiences familiar and new to his repertoire. Marcos Silva has toured with many world- renowned artists, most recently Dori Caymmi. He was musical director for Flora Purim and Airto Moreira for 24 years. Marcos has written arrangements for Dizzy Gillespie’s band and replaced Gil Evans as arranger-composer of Airto’s Spiritual Mass in Germany. He is sought after as a producer of recordings, including several of his own. Marcos heads the Brazilian Music Department at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley, CA. Accompanying Marcos on a 2025 tour throughout the state of Oregon is bassist Andrew Lion (a Downbeat Four-Star recipient for the Post Bop group he co-leads, Negative Press Project), saxophonist Idit Shner (Mhondoro, Professor of Saxophone and Jazz Studies University of Oregon), drummer Zach Mondlick (Marcos Silva, California Jazz Conservatory) and guitarist Seth Burrows (Cascade School of Music).
