About the event

Workshop: Learn How a Mini-Forest Can Bring Nature to Your Community
Learn the benefits and how-tos of planting a mini-forest in your community with presenters Nate Galloway, and Hannah Lewis

About this Event

The Miyawaki Method is an exciting technique that community members can use to grow a dense forest quickly in small spaces. Developed by Dr. Akira Miyawaki, this method offers a step-by-step process for planting and nurturing mini-forests. These tiny but mighty forests contribute to cleaner water and air and offer shade and access to nature for city-dwellers.

At this free interactive workshop and mini-forest tour with Garden Educator/Land Connector Nate Galloway and Hannah Lewis, the author of the book , participants will learn about the benefits of planting a mini-forest at their school or other community spaces. They'll also learn how to get started with a mini-forest and discover resources available for mini-forests.

Together, we'll also remember and honor the memory of the late, deeply respected community leader Melvin Giles, who helped come up with the idea for this workshop and was a collaborator in planting the mini-forest at Pilgrim Baptist Church's Community Garden.

Light refreshments and beverages will be served at this event. All attendees will also qualify for a prize drawing. Prizes will include a copy of the book Mini-Forest Revolution, a rain barrel, and more.

The event will include hands-on learning and art activities for children and youth, and all ages are welcome. Space is limited, however, and registration is required. If you will be accompanied by youth, please indicate on your registration form how many children you plan to bring to the event so we can plan accordingly.
