EVENT DETAILS:

Ahoy Matey! It’s time to set sail and explore this summer on our newest (and tallest!) adventure yet. We’ve partnered up with Duluth, Minnesota’s “Tall Ships Festival” to create a VIP experience to this one-of-a-kind festival on the shores of Lake Superior, which includes early access to the festival (before it opens to the general public!), time to hop aboard these rare vessels and explore their decks, free time to explore the festival and it’s exhibits, and even a privately chartered sailing experience aboard one of these icons tall ships! In addition to all the merry-maritime fun, while in the beautiful port city of Duluth, we will be treated to delicious meals and flavorful drinks at some of Duluth’s “knot” to be missed establishments! Don’t get “anchored” down with the challenge of arranging transportation and travel plans, making expensive hotel reservations, and navigating bustling Duluth keep you from exploring this truly unique festival – instead, let us take away the burden of planning so you can sit back, relax and enjoy as we throw off the bowlines and explore!

Our voyage will begin bright and early at our meet-up location in Roseville, MN where your GetKnit Gurus will be excited to welcome you with hot coffee and fresh donuts from A Baker’s Wife Pastry Shop. From there, we’ll jump aboard our “vessel” for the day – our luxury coach bus and take off on our nautical-adventure up north! Once we’re on our way, we’ll enjoy a savory croissant of your choosing from A Baker’s Wife Pastry Shop. At time of registration, you’ll be able to choose between their Ham and Cheese Croissant or their Spinach and Feta Croissant.

Upon arriving in Duluth, we will head to the Festival of Sail – the midwest’s premier tall ships festival, located along the water in Canal Park harbor. Here we will be welcomed through our special entrance, and get to enjoy the festival one hour before the general public is let in. This extra time will allow us a more laid back and relaxed opportunity to check out the rare tall ships featured at the festival, hop aboard some of the vessels and explore their decks – without having to wait in long lines. With so much to explore, once the doors open to the general public – we’ll continue our exploring and make sure we get to take full advantage of all this festival has to offer from local art and retail markets, live entertainment, food and drinks vendors, and of course…a giant rubber duck!

After we’ve “Seas” the day at the festival, we will come back together as a larger group and walk to the nearby and locally loved, Hoops Brewing in the heart of Canal Park. Here we will be welcomed with your choice of house-made craft beer, THC beverage, or nonalcoholic beverage. Once we’ve gotten settled in to our semi-private space within Hoops’ welcoming taproom, we will enjoy a mid-fest luncheon catered in by one of Duluth’s premier eateries – Northern Waters Smokehaus, who’ve specialized in smoked fish, handcrafted smoked meats, and unique deli sandwiches since 2001. Lunch will feature a buffet of their delectable sandwiches including their Cajun Finn: Haus-smoked Cajun salmon, green onion cream cheese, roasted red peppers, pepperoncini & lettuce on stirato; Cold Turkey: Haus-smoked sage maple turkey breast (free-range and MN raised), lettuce, Swiss & our very special craisen walnut mayo. Served on stirato; Pastrami Mommy: smoked pastrami, pepperoncini, provolone, lettuce, mustard & mayo on rye; and the Sunday Sushi: Smoked ham, scallion cream cheese, cabbage, and sliced dill pickle on a hero roll. All accompanied by salad, potato chips and a selection of cookies from Duluth’s very own Positively 3rd Street Bakery.

After an engergizing lunch, we will be set free to explore as you see fit — take in the many sites in-and-around Canal Park like the famous boardwalk, shops along Lake Street, Park Point beach, and beyond; Head to the William A. Irvin Museum, and tour this iconic iron ore and coal freighter that once traveled the Great Lakes (admission is included with your ‘Festival of Sail’ ticket!); or head back to the ‘Festival of Sail’ if you still had more sights you wanted to explore! No matter how you choose to explore, you’ll be sure to have a “boatload” of fun!

We’ll regroup once again for the climatic moment of our boat-filled day, as we’re invited to board the schooner Liberty Clipper . This impressive vessel was built in 1983 at the Blount Shipyard in Rhode Island. With a steel hull, she is a modern replica of a Baltimore Clipper style schooner, which were widely used during the 18th and 19th centuries. Once we’re all aboard the Liberty Clipper we will set sail on the waters of Lake Superior for a once-in-lifetime 75-minute sailing experience on the World’s Biggest Lake! If conditions allow, we will sail under Duluth’s icon Lift Bridge and out onto the big waters – so we can marvel at both the beautiful ship we’re aboard and our stunning surroundings.

Once we’re back on the mainland, we will board our luxury coach bus and head to one of Duluth’s fine dining establishments, The Boat Club Restaurant, located in the historic Fitgers Complex, for “sail”a-bratory drinks and dinner! After we get settled in to our private event space for dinner, we’ll be able to order up our choice of wine, rail drink beer, or nonalcoholic beverage. We will kick off our dinner with a fresh dinner salad and choice of dressing, followed by your choice of an elegant platted dinner. At time of registration, you’ll be able to choose between Boneless Beef Short Ribs with cognac peppercorn cream sauce served with garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetable; Chicken with Rosemary Garlic Cream Sauce served with garlic mashed potato and seasonal vegetable; Shrimp Alfredo with linguine noodles; Parmesan Crusted Walleye served with garlic mashed potato and seasonal vegetable; or an Alfredo Pasta with alfredo sauce with linguine noodles (vegetarian option).

With bellies (and hearts!) full, we will begin our return trip home to the Twin Cities. On our journey home, we’ll be able to reflect on the many memories made and rest assured that we truly “seas” the day!
