“Painting from Still Life” by Alan J Thompson

An introduction to the artist Alan J Thompson

Alan was born in Hyde, Cheshire in 1940. He attended the Regional College of Art, Manchester (1957-1961) where he studied painting. After leaving college Alan taught part-time in various colleges and further education centres while continuing to paint. He gave up teaching in 1989 in order to paint full-time.

Alan has been a member of Manchester Academy and has exhibited mainly in the Northwest, although he has shown work in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the Royal Scottish Academy.

An introduction to the exhibition

The paintings in this Exhibition were painted in oil on canvas from objects arranged on a table in an attempt to express form and spatial relationships.

Saddleworth Museum welcomes Alan’s new exhibition “Painting from Still Life”. This exhibition will be with us from Saturday 27th September to Sunday 26th October.
