Three distinct sonic worlds collide in one night of immersive sound during the Heavy Hearts Tour. NYC’s medium. brings slow-burn noise and heavy textures with saws, samplers, steel, and guts — somewhere between a séance and a basement rave. Jiyoung Wi bends improvisation into sonic risk & narrative. Show Pony sculpts experimental distorted dream worlds.
medium. is a death ambient project by NYC-based non-binary transdisciplinary artists yaz lancaster and gg200bpm. They perform longform experimental compositions and improvisations utilizing unique electroacoustic instrumentation: suspended lumber saws, handmade steel instruments, violin, voice(s), synthesizers, keyboards, sampler(s), DJ controllers, and sequencers. Sonically, their work considers tension and release; spiritual energies; and collective experiences – situated in the extremes of harsh noise and glacially-paced ambient drones. medium. presents in a wide variety of spaces and aesthetics – from DIY noise shows; to (hybrid) DJ sets in electronic music/club/radio settings; and more traditional concert recital halls and museum galleries. yaz is a member of PTP artist collective, founder & organizer of experimental show series HEAVY HEARTS, and aspiring Big Brother houseguest; and gg is a vocalist at St. Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic church, high school piano teacher, and South Park pinball machine fanatic.
Jiyoung Wi ( KR/NL (she/her)) is a musician/improviser and fiction writer floating between Rotterdam and Seoul. Her polarized practice explores narrative possibilities in non-image-based mediums. She has developed a series of ‘sound fiction’ works focusing on the tentative reciprocity between sound and text. As a self-punitive improviser, through her negative virtuosity and risk-taking gestures, she confronts the thresholds of sonic immediacy. She has performed at venues such as Volksbühne (DE), Cafe OTO (UK), Columbia University (US), Les Siestes Festival (FR), The Grey Space in the Middle (NL), and The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp (BE), among others.
Show Pony (NL/USA) is the experimental pop project of bassists & singer Laura Nygren. Using a practice of world building and wonder, Show Pony builds sci fi sonic worlds, weaving ecological dream-pop with synths, noise, and a love of distortion. Previous performances include Melkweg, Vrije Geluiden, Cultura Nova, Intro in Situ, Gaudeamus, November Music, Muziekgebouw aan ’t Ij, and Korzo. As a session musician she has appeared with Damon Albarn, Soap & Skin, Anna Calvi, and Stargaze. An organizer and producer, Tell Me More is her labor of love and a place for DIY experimental acts to gather germinate.
