100th Anniversary of the Roane Iron Company Mine Explosion July, 23 1925

Without the Roane Iron Company there may never have been a Rockwood. I, as well as many of you, had many family members that worked and raised families by being employed by Roane Iron Company. In the 1920's Roane Iron Company experienced some serious tragedies. On July 23, 1925 a Mine explosion killed 10 men. A 2nd explosion occurred on October 4, 1926 that killed 27 and injured more.

Please join us in Downtown Rockwood in Homecoming Park on Wednesday, July 23rd at 6PM as we honor the memory of those men killed from our community on the 100th anniversary of the 1st major Roane Iron Company Mine Explosion.
