🐴June 4 - Horsin’ Around in the Glorious Grasslands (geared towards ages 6-9)
Did you know grasslands were common in the Piedmont many years ago? Exciting changes came about during the Miocene Epoch when forests were giving way to grasslands, and horses were roaming wide-open prairies. Come learn about horses and what makes them perfect for grasslands (and pastures) today.
🐆June 18 - Miocene Cats Prowling the Piedmont (geared towards ages 6-9)
Are they cats or not? Join us to learn about saber tooth cats and nimravids, non-feline saber tooths that once prowled the Piedmont! Make fun crafts while learning about these amazing ancient mammals!
🦌June 25- Wonders of Headgear (geared towards ages 6-9)
Explore the amazing headgear of horns, antlers, and ossicones on incredible mammals who once roamed the growing Piedmont grasslands. Make your own headgear and learn about the amazing ways Miocene hooved mammals attracted mates and deterred rivals right here in the Piedmont.
🐎July 9 - Horsin’ around the Miocene (geared towards ages 9 & up)
Did you know horses have been around for 50 million years? Learn what took them from the dog sized, 4-toed Eohippus to the modern horses we see today! Gallop in for all the fun!
🐘July 16- Miocene Mega Mammals (geared towards ages 9 & up)
Shovel tuskers, tree pushers, and entelodonts are incredible creatures that once lived in the Piedmont region, while gomphotheres, relatives of elephants, maintained our growing grasslands! Join us for fun crafts while learning about these crazy creatures.
