The Rochester Symphony Orchestra warmly invites you to an extraordinary musical experience—CULTURAL INFUSION.
Under the masterful guidance of our talented Conductor and Music Director, Maestro Zeljko Milicevic, join us for an enchanting evening on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. The event will be held at the beautiful St. Paul's United Methodist Church, located at 620 Romeo Road, Rochester, Michigan, where the acoustics and ambiance create the perfect setting for an unforgettable performance.
CULTURAL INFUSION lives up to its name, promising a diverse array of musical offerings that are sure to captivate every audience member.
The concert will open with "Finlandia," a stirring symphonic poem composed by the illustrious Finnish composer, Jean Sibelius. Originally created between 1899 and 1900, this piece was crafted to articulate the Finnish spirit during a time of increasing censorship from the Russian Empire.
Next, we are excited to feature the phenomenal talent of thirteen-year-old cellist Cameron Renshaw, the winner of the 2025 Young Artist Competition. Cameron will showcase the fourth movement of Elgar's Cello Concerto: "Allegro – Moderato – Allegro, ma non troppo – Poco più lento – Adagio." His deeply expressive performances reveal musicality well beyond his years.
Continuing the evening, we will be treated to the masterful compositions of Aaron Copland, a titan among American classical composers whose works resonate with an unmistakable American spirit. In 1942, the brilliant choreographer Agnes de Mille was commissioned to create a ballet about cowboy themes for the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, and she chose Copland for his unique voice.
Additionally, we will experience the exuberance of Morton Gould's "American Salute," a captivating piece based on the beloved patriotic tune "When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again." Written during the tumultuous year of 1943, this composition serves as a tribute to American resilience and spirit during World War II.
