R-ACT Theatre Productions is holding open auditions for David Mamet's drama Oleanna on Tuesday, June 24 from 7–9PM and Sunday, June 29 from 5–7PM at the Segriff Stage in Rochester, PA. Video auditions are also accepted. Register online. We’re seeking one middle-aged male actor and one college-aged female actor. PERFORMANCE DATES: October 17–19, 2025
REHEARSALS: Sundays and Tuesdays beginning early/mid August 2025 at Segriff Stage. Potential rehearsals in July depending on cast availability. Exact dates to be determined after casting.
📜 Show Synopsis:
When a struggling student visits her college professor to discuss her grades, it sparks an academic conversation spiraling into a charged battle of power, language, and interpretation. In David Mamet’s Oleanna, accusations fly, lines are blurred, and the stakes are raised in this tense 3-act drama that challenges assumptions about authority, gender, and truth.
⚠️ Content Warning – Profanity and Violence:
This show contains strong language and a depiction of physical conflict. Themes include sexual harassment, power imbalances and abuse of power, gender-based accusations, emotional manipulation, and psychological distress. Both actors should be comfortable with profanity, mild intimacy (e.g., caressing shoulders), stage combat, and discussions of r*pe and violence.
🎭 Character Synopses:
All roles are available and unpaid.
John (Male presenting, 35–55) – An established college professor. Can be distant and pompous. Should be able to portray both stern authority and moments of vulnerability or care.
Carol (Female presenting, college-aged, 18–25) – John’s student. Starts out timid and unsure but grows in confidence and assertiveness. Displays a wide emotional range and complex psychological shifts throughout the show.
Both roles are complex and emotionally demanding with shifting dynamics and psychological stand-offs.
Both actors should be comfortable with profanity, mild intimacy (e.g., caressing shoulders), stage combat, and discussions of r*pe and violence.
