Paper-Making With Invasive Plants

Are you ready to discover the ancient and sustainable craft of papermaking?

This workshop will explore how *invasive plants* can be repurposed for papermaking and transformed into beautiful, functional art. Jamie will guide you through the fascinating history of papermaking, examining traditional fibers and introducing the scholarship of Indigenous scientist Jessica Hernandez.

Step-by-Step Learning:

● Start with an introduction to the history and techniques of papermaking.

● Learn about the types of fibers traditionally used in paper and how we can apply Hernandez's teachings to see invasive species in a new light.

● Watch a live demonstration of sheet forming with the pulp from Ohio’s invasive plants.

● Once you’ve mastered the basics of sheet forming, experiment with papermaking techniques such as incorporating botanicals, creating seed paper, and making collage artwork.

INSTRUCTOR: After earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts, Jamie Hoy discovered her artistic voice by integrating her passion for art and her affinity for gardening and the natural environment. In Columbus, she plays a vital role as a co-leader of the Columbus Hand Paper Makers, an organization dedicated to fostering connections among local papermakers and creating a platform for knowledge exchange and celebrating the craft.
