About the event

OOYH Records @ Artspace: Second Mondays (7/14) - Daisy (Chi) / Dierker (Bmore) / Clark / Hopkins
We did this same show as part of OOYH Records Second Mondays @ Artspace in 2024 and we all enjoyed it so much that we decided to repeat it and get a good remote recording by Lance at Minimum Wage. Come on out and be part of the live record, likely for release on OOYH Beacons, our new all-improvised digital music series!

Details:

We have a very special OOYH Records Second Mondays planned for July 14, featuring two guest performers from out of town, drummer Tim Daisy from Chicago, and multi-reeds player John Dierker from Baltimore. For fans of jazz and improvised music in Richmond (and beyond) this event is can't miss! Tim and Scott Clark will each present short sets for solo drum set, then the four musicians will perform as a first time quartet.

Tim Daisy is a Chicago based drummer, composer, and presenter who’s been an active member of the international improvised music scene since the late 1990s. Mainly self- taught, with some private lessons on drums, marimba and vibraphone, Tim’s move and subsequent immersion into Chicago’s fertile creative music scene in 1997 has given him the opportunity to perform, compose, tour and record with some of the city’s most acclaimed musicians and ensembles. Along with his drumming and compositional work connected to various experimental music groups, Tim has also contributed original compositions and improvisations for modern dance, various sound installations, documentary films, and podcasts. Since 2011, he has operated Relay Records, a 100% artist-run cd and download label which documents much of his creative work both locally and internationally. Tim helped co-curate the Option Series at Experimental Sound Studio from 2015 until 2022. The programming explores contemporary perspectives on improvisation and composition in a ‘salon’ format, enabling local, national, and international artists to publicly discuss their practice and ideas as well as perform. In addition, he is a member of the Catalytic Sound Creative Music Cooperative. A music-based co-operative designed to help create economic sustainability for its artists through patron support. Outside of Tim’s performance, curatorial and label duties, he has worked as a teaching artist with CAPE (Chicago Artist Partnerships in Education.) Collaborating with Chicago public school teachers on projects which enhance learning through arts integration.

Multi-reedman John Dierker has become a major improvisational stylist . . . interweaving concepts augmented by howling lines, injections of blues-drenched choruses and Albert Ayler-like display of energy." (All About Jazz.) A Baltimore, Maryland native Dierker has worked in a wide variety of musical settings collaborating with Peter Zummo, Jason Willett, Jad Fair, The Basement Boys, Michael Formanek, and Marty Ehrlich, to name a few. He is a longtime member of Lafayette Gilchrist and The New Volcanoes. Currently he is working with Quartet Offensive, Lubbock, and Microkingdom as well as freelancing in the Baltimore/D.C. area.
