Mark Farina, a globally recognized house and Mushroom Jazz DJ, is celebrated for his constant touring, content creation, and partnerships with renowned venues and labels. He's dedicated to showcasing both new and classic tracks, viewing his role as a "modern day traveling minstrel."
Starting his musical journey in Chicago, he discovered Medusa's club and met Derrick Carter, who introduced him to influential house music. His residency at Smart Bar began in 1988 and continues today. In 1989, he co-released "Mood," considered the first "Ambient House" track.
Farina pioneered Mushroom Jazz, blending various genres, and his early cassette tapes were highly sought after. He relocated to San Francisco in 1992, co-founded a weekly Mushroom Jazz night, and released the influential Mushroom Jazz CD series, with Volume 8 reaching #1 on Billboard's Dance/Electronic chart in 2016.
A prolific artist, Farina has released numerous mix CDs, including "Dream Machine." He continues to tour extensively, hosts a successful YouTube series with Defected Records, produces original music and remixes with Homero Espinosa, and runs his label, Great Lakes Audio Recordings. Despite industry changes, Mark Farina remains a respected and consistently engaging figure in dance music.
