RACE DIRECTOR MINUTE – LAST STAND ARMY BACKYARD ULTRA & ULTRA MINI
JUNE 14, 2025 | MIDLOTHIAN, VA
Runners,
The wait is almost over! The Last Stand Army Backyard Ultra & Ultra Mini is quickly approaching, and we can't wait to see each of you toe the line on June 14th as we celebrate 250 years of the U.S. Army and Flag Day in true Last Stand fashion — with grit, sweat, and an unstoppable community spirit!
Here’s everything you need to know to hit the ground running:
ARRIVAL & PACKET PICKUP:
We’ll be on-site by 5:00 AM and packet pickup officially opens from 5:30 AM to 630AM— but if you want to get there early, come on! We’ll have your race packet ready so you can set up your space, breathe it all in, and get in the zone.
MANDATORY WELCOME & SAFETY BRIEF:
At 6:45 AM SHARP, we’ll gather everyone for a brief but important welcome and safety brief. This is where we lock arms as a race family before the madness begins — don’t miss it!
7:00 AM START – GUIDED FIRST LOOP:
The first loop kicks off at 7:00 AM, led by a cyclist cruising at a relaxed 45-minute pace to help you learn the course. This is your one and only guided lap — after that, you’re flying solo. The 8:00 AM loop and every loop after will be unmarked. Don’t worry though — the course is simple, and after a couple laps, you’ll be an old pro.
THE FORMAT – SIMPLE, BRUTAL, BEAUTIFUL:
Loops start on the hour, every hour. Be in the starting corral when the bell rings, or you’re out. That’s it. No excuses, no extensions, no exceptions. You’ll either run another loop... or call it a day. Either way you will have much to be proud of. It’s your race, your Last Stand.
FUELING YOUR FIGHT:
We’ll have light snacks and water at the start/finish, but it’s up to YOU to bring the gear, food, and hydration you’ll need. This is your battle plan, so come prepared. And trust me—having a support crew makes a massive difference. Even a one person support crew can mean the difference between “hanging it up” or heading out again.
PACERS WELCOME (WITH RULES):
Pacers can join you, but here’s how it works:
They cannot cross the start or finish line with you.
They may start running with you right after you cross the start.
They must run beside or behind you — this is YOUR race. Let them push, not pull.
There will be some folks who have signed up to run the Ultra-Mini. They may be great folks to help as pacers but also invite some of your friends and/or support crew to pace with you
THIS IS YOUR RACE — BUT YOU’RE NOT ALONE:
Remember — this isn’t about beating anyone else. It’s about digging deep, writing your own story, and discovering just how far you can go. But you're not doing it alone. You'll be surrounded by a tribe of warriors — runners, crews, volunteers, and spectators — all cheering for you every single loop.
Every finish is met with cheers. Every loop completed is a victory. And no matter how long you go — whether one lap or many — you’ll be celebrated.
So bring the fire. Bring the focus. And bring your best.
We’ll be waiting at the start line to ring the bell.
STAND TALL. STAND TOGETHER. THIS IS YOUR LAST STAND.
