Art-making at Branscombe House!
In this workshop, we'll explore the development of Lulu Island through the alternative photographic process of cyanotype.
We'll work together to reprint a large archival map of Richmond on fabric, and add plants, personal items, and silhouettes cut from paper to represent spaces of personal and cultural significance.
We’ll work with local plants and materials, note whether plants are indigenous, introduced, or invasive, and think about what developments led to their existence here.
There will also be sensitized paper available so you can make your own prints to take home with you.
What to bring
All materials will be provided, but if you like, bring an item that represents somewhere in Richmond or the neighbouring cities. This could be flowers or leaves, a personal item like jewellery, a keepsake or memento. Think about things that make a good silhouette. We'll add your item to our map and see what shape it leaves on the fabric after exposure to the sun!

Choose a time
There are two time slots available to participate: 10am- 12:30pm and 1:30-4pm. Select a ticket for whichever works best for you.
About the Branscombe Artist Residency
Branscombe House is one of the earliest settler homes in Steveston and is significant for its historical association to the development of the area, both as a residential building and through the Branscombe family’s general store. Cat Hart is the current artist in residence exploring this history through eco-arts processes.
