As Day 43 of the Boone Trace 250 comes to a close, we invite you to gather with us at one of the most historically poignant sites on Daniel Boone’s trail into Kentucky—Twetty’s Fort.
📜 Tom Black of the Madison County Historical Society will speak about the significance of Boone Trace, the 250th anniversary of Boone’s historic journey, and the events that took place at this solemn site in 1775. Here, Felix Twetty, a member of Boone’s expedition, and Sam, an enslaved man who was part of the party, were killed—among the first to fall during Boone’s trailblazing passage through the Cumberland Gap. Their loss is a sobering reminder of the human cost behind the pioneer movement.
🏛️ The Boonesborough Chapter of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), instrumental in preserving the site’s legacy, will also be in attendance. The chapter placed the original commemorative stone marker in 1934, and later secured one acre of the land to protect it during development. Just two years ago, they transferred title to the City of Richmond to ensure its long-term care and historical interpretation.
This brief but meaningful gathering offers a chance to remember, reflect, and honor all who traveled the Boone Trace—free and enslaved, settler and scout—whose stories are woven into Kentucky’s earliest frontier history.
