BOB BURGERS, AN IMPROVISED COMEDY AUDITIONS

The Coalition Theater is holding auditions for an improvised adaptation of Bob’s Burgers, directed by Emma Bailey in collaboration with Asia Briggs and Michelle Murgia. This show is scheduled for performances on November 14, 21, 28, and December 5 at 7:30pm. 

AUDITION TIME SLOTS:

• 10am-11:15am
• 12pm-1:15pm
• 2pm-3:15pm

Please arrive on time, with a general idea of some characters you’d be interested in playing. 

Callbacks will be held on Sunday, August 17th between 9am and 4pm.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

• Previous improv training (301 or equivalent minimum preferred)
• Show date availability
• Ability to practice weekly starting in October, and throughout the run of the show
• A working understanding of the show/willingness to familiarize further
• Ability to embody one or more characters in vocal pattern, personality, and physicality
• All team members must be 18 years or older

Bonus skills:

• Strong familiarity with the show and its trivia
• Musical ability, especially keyboard or ukulele
• Pop culture knowledge, especially movies and music
• Pun-making ability

ROLE TYPE BREAKDOWN:

“BELCHERS”- Bob, Linda, Tina, Gene, and Louise. This will be a fixed 5-person cast whose  focus is to emulate these well-known characters and their relationships with one another. 

Note: The role of Bob has been pre-cast, but an understudy is still needed

“WHARFERS”- Of equal importance! This will be a cast of about 5 players who will adapt to the needs of each performance. The goal is for them to learn and play varying side characters throughout the run of the show, and serve as understudies for the Belchers. While practice attendance is still expected, the Wharfer players have more flexibility in their roles and may not be required for every performance. 

Side character examples: Teddy, Mr. Fischoeder, Jimmy Pesto, Gretchen, Gayle, Jimmy Jr., Zeke, Tammy, Jocelyn, Rudy, Millie, Mr. Frond, Hugo, Mickey the bank robber, Sgt. Bosco, etc. All recurring characters are fair game!

EMMA BAILEY

For the past 6 years, Emma has been a dog trainer by day, improviser by night. For the past 10 years, she’s been developing an “encyclopedic knowledge” of her favorite TV show, Bob’s Burgers. She is admittedly biased towards the early seasons, preferring the off-beat, chaotic, slightly edgy program she originally fell in love with. “Bob Burgers: an improvised comedy” will be Emma’s directorial debut, an ambitious idea she has been brewing for over a year. Her goal is to produce a satisfying tribute to this beloved show, as well as some “simply good improv.”
