Sóljafndægur er ný tónleikaröð í Fríkirkjunni í Reykjavík þar sem Heiða Árnadóttir flytur verk eftir Guðmund Stein Gunnarsson, Ásbjörgu Jónsdóttur, Kristínu Þóru Haraldsdóttur og Þórunni Björnsdóttur. Þema tónleikanna eru sólstöður og jafndægur. Tónskáldin semja verk sem fléttast inn í þemun.

Sumarsólstöður - Þórunn Björnsdóttir - Spirit I/II/III
Verkið:
“Á sumarsólstöðum gerast töfrar sem tengja má við handan heima en þá verða tengsl okkar mannanna við náttúruna líka sterkari þegar sólin er hæst á lofti og dagurinn er sem lengstur. Á þessum hápunkti verður endurstilling þar sem hið yfirnáttúrulega minnir á sig og jarðtengir okkur um leið þar sem náttúruöflin stór og smá vakna og tala til okkar og eftir stendur endurstilling mennskunnar.”
Spirit I er unnið uppúr viðtali við söngkonuna um upplifanir hennar af handanheimum. Verkið er e.k. innsetning þar sem rýmið spilar hlutverk ásamt rödd og myndefni.
Spirit II, er unnið útfrá andlegri/líkamlegri reynslu söngkonunnar en í þessum hluta verksins vinn ég með líkamlega minnið, sem líkt og tré getur birtst og mótast í ýmsum myndum. Verkið er e.k. innsetning og unnið í nánu samstarfi við Heiðu.
Spirit III Í þessum lokaþætti þríleiksins er komið að endurstillingu. Hér, líkt og í fyrri þáttum, er unnið í nánu samstarfi við flytjendur í spunakenndu ferli. Harmonium leikur við röddina og saman færast þau nær endurstillingu. Í verkinu spinnast fínlegir þræðir endurtekningar saman við þráláta leit raddanna tveggja að samhljómi. ´Þegar inn kemur tekur viðargólfið við sér, brakar, eins og tilraun til að hljóma líkt og stjarna í fagurbláu loftinu. Pump og þus, hingað og þangað, keimur af söng, keimur af öðrum tíma. Endurstilling.´
Um Þórunni
Þórunn Björnsdóttir (1971) nam tónlist og myndlist í Reykjavík og síðar í Amsterdam og Den Haag í Hollandi. Hún hefur unnið í ýmsum miðlum, bæði tónverk og innsetningar og liggja verk hennar oft á mörkum hins persónulega og opinbera rýmis. Hún er einnig blokkflautuleikari og kennari og hefur einnig gefið út ljóð. Verk hennar hafa verið sýnd og flutt á Íslandi og í Evrópu.
Um Heiðu
Heiða Árnadóttir er söngkona og var staðarlistamaður Myrkra músíkdaga árin 2020-2023. Á ferli sínum hefur hún lagt mikla áherslu á flutning nútímatónlistar, auk þjóðlagatónlistar, djass, tilrauna- og ljóðatónlistar. Heiða lauk meistaranámi frá Tónlistarháskólanum í Haag í Hollandi árið 2004.Auk fjölmargra tónleika á Íslandi hefur hún komið fram víða í Evrópu og sungið á ýmsum hátíðum, bæði hérlendis og erlendis. Heiða var tilnefnd sem söngkona ársins á Íslensku Tónlistarverðlaununum í flokki klassískrar tónlistar árin 2020 og 2023. Einnig hlaut hún Grímuverðlaunin sem söngvari ársins 2024 fyrir ljóðsöguna Mörsugur. Heiða er lagahöfundur, textaskáld og söngkona í hljómsveitinni Mógil, sem hefur gefið út fjórar plötur. Í fyrra gaf hún út plötuna Tunglið og ég ásamt Gunnari Gunnarssyni píanóleikara.

Solinuox: A New Concert Series at Fríkirkjan í Reykjavík
Solinuox: is an exciting new concert series at Fríkirkjan in Reykjavik, featuring Heiða Árnadóttir performing works by Guðmundur Steinn Gunnarsson, Ásbjörg Jónsdóttir, Kristín Þóra Haraldsdóttir, and Þórunn Björnsdóttir. The concert theme revolves around the solstice and equinox, with composers creating pieces deeply intertwined with these celestial events.
The Work:
"At the summer solstice, magic happens—magic that can be linked to the otherworld, as our connection with nature also grows stronger when the sun is at its highest and the day is at its longest. At this peak, a reset occurs, where the supernatural makes its presence known and simultaneously grounds us, as nature's forces, large and small, awaken and speak to us. What remains is a resetting of humanity."
Spirit I is based on an interview with the singer about her experiences with the otherworld. The work is a type of installation where the space plays a role along with voice and visuals.
Spirit II is based on the singer's spiritual/physical experiences. In this part of the work, I engage with physical memory, which, like a tree, can manifest and take shape in various forms. The piece is an installation and created in close collaboration with Heiða.
Spirit III In this final part of the trilogy, the focus is on resetting. Here, as in the previous parts, the work is developed in close collaboration with the performers in an improvisational process. The harmonium interacts with the voice, and together they move toward a reset. In the work, delicate threads of repetition intertwine with the persistent search of the two voices for harmony. “When one enters, the wooden floor responds, creaking, as if trying to sound like a star in the beautifully blue sky. A thump and a murmur, here and there, a trace of song, a trace of another time. Reset.”
About Þórunn Björnsdóttir: Þórunn Björnsdóttir (b. 1971) studied music and visual arts in Reykjavík, and later in Amsterdam and The Hague in the Netherlands. She has worked across various media, creating both musical compositions and installations, and her works often lie at the intersection of the personal and the public. She is also a recorder player and teacher, and has published poetry. Her works have been exhibited and performed in Iceland and across Europe.
About Heiða Árnadóttir:
Heiða Árnadóttir is a celebrated singer, having been an artist in residence at the Dark Music Days from 2020 to 2023. She specializes in contemporary music, folk, jazz, experimental, and poetic genres. Heiða holds a master's degree from the Hague Academy of Music in the Netherlands (2004).Heiða has performed extensively across Europe and Iceland, participating in numerous festivals. She was nominated for Singer of the Year in the Classical Music category at the Icelandic Music Awards in 2020 and 2023 and received the Grím Award for Singer of the Year in 2024 for her performance of Mörsugur. Additionally, she is a songwriter, lyricist, and vocalist in the band Mógil, which has released four albums. Her most recent solo album, Tunglið og ég, was released in collaboration with pianist Gunnar Gunnarsson.
