Some thoughts about water and shelter

Guest students Alva Lobråten and Johann Karl Jasper Joesten from the Visual Communication program at the Iceland University of the Arts will present their independent projects developed during the Fall 2025 semester.

Alva, a student at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp and originally from the Åland Islands, explores the similarities and differences between Iceland and her home island, with a particular focus on water as a connecting element.

Johann, a student at Bauhaus University Weimar with a background in design and interactive media, has been visiting the same beach near his home each week to document the entanglements between humans and nature. Icelandic traditions of corrugated metal architecture have also informed his work, particularly in his exploration of designing shelters with nature, rather than against it.
