About the event

Lou Reed Drones
Verið hjartanlega velkomin á Lou Reed Drones – einstaka hljóðinnsetningu í porti Listasafns Reykjavíkur – Hafnarhúsi.

Viðburðurinn er haldinn í tilefni Íslandsheimsóknar Laurie Anderson sem tekur þátt í flutningi verksins.

Verkið, sem hefur farið sigurför um heiminn, býður upp á djúpa og umlykjandi upplifun þar sem gítarar úr safni Lou Reed magna upp kraftmikinn hljóm sem umbreytist með hverju skrefi.

Verkið byggir á gíturum úr safni lífsförunautar Laurie Anderson, bandaríska tónlistarmannsins Lou Reed, sem lést árið 2013. Hann var hvað þekktastur sem stofnandi og aðalsöngvari hljómsveitarinnar The Velvet Underground. Hljóðfærunum er stillt upp á þann hátt að kraftmikill dynur og ómar fylla rýmið af hundruðum hljóma sem flæða saman í tilfinningaþrunginn hljóðheim. • Republic of Love tónleikar í Hörpu sama dag.
• Þrjár víólur í Listasafni Íslands daginn eftir 8.jan.

Welcome to Lou Reed Drones – a unique sound installation in the Port of the Reykjavík Art Museum – Hafnarhús.

The event is organized by Smekkleysa & Mengi and hosted by the Reykjavík Art Museum in conjunction with the retrospective exhibition Steina: Playback

The work is based on guitars from the collection of Laurie's life partner, American musician Lou Reed, who died in 2013. He was best known as the founder and lead singer of the band The Velvet Underground. The instruments are arranged in such a way that powerful beats and resonances fill the space with hundreds of chords that flow together in an emotional soundscape. The event is organized by Smekkleysa & Mengi and hosted by the Reykjavík Art Museum in connection with the retrospective exhibition Steina: Tímaflakk. It is part of three events marking Laurie Anderson's visit to Iceland in early 2026:
• Republic of Love concert at Harpa that same evening
• Three Violas at the National Gallery of Iceland the following weekend
