Dear family and friends,
Unbelievably, it is already the last week of July, which means the annual RFN 5k is tomorrow! As most of you know, the first 5k I hosted was back in 2020. What initially began as a multi-month fundraising effort to raise donations for ovarian cancer awareness culminated in a 5k event on Friday, July 31. My mom, Nancy, lived to see the thousands of dollars of donations raised that summer and the large turnout at that first event before passing away on Saturday, August 1. In honor of her, I have continued to host this 5k event every year on the last Saturday of July.
The fundraiser and 5k initially took on the name "Run For Nancy, Walk For All." Due to the passing of my dad, John, in February of this year (also from cancer), I have decided to dedicate this year's event to him as well, naming this year's event "Run For Nancy, Walk For John." In addition, I have decided that this year will be the last year of hosting this 5k. It was something my dad and I would put on together, and since this year is also the 5th anniversary of my mom's passing, I believe it is fitting for this year to be the final 5k. (Of course, I will continue to run for Nancy and walk for John throughout the year, as I hope you will too.)
Join me tomorrow -- Saturday, July 26th -- at 10am at Avenue C and the Esplanade (at the top of the stairs). As always, I will be there early with a table set up with this year's t-shirts ("Run For Nancy, Walk For John") as well as a selection from previous years. There will be a variety of sizes and colors, each costing $5, which covers my cost in making them each year.
Thank you again, everyone, for your many years of love, care, and support. You all hold a very special place in my heart, and whether you come out in person tomorrow or whether you walk / run / bike in your own neighborhood, I know that we are all together in spirit!
