Earth Science Outreach UK are going to be at the 2025 Redcar Kite Festival, and we want to show everyone just how amazing Redcar is for fossiling. Join our Redcar Rocks Fossil Safari and discover the Jurassic gems to be found on the Cleveland Coast.
We will meet outside the back entrance (the beach side) of the TunedIn! Centre, Majuba Road, Redcar. Our expert guides will lead you on a 15-minute walk to Redcar Rocks, part of the Teesmouth and Cleveland Coast SSSI, a Site of Special Scientific Interest for both its Ice Age and Jurassic geology. We will then spend around an hour revealing the secrets of the stones, and helping you spot fabulous fossils. At the end of the walk, you can either stay on the beach and carry on looking for fossils, or return to the Kite Festival, where the Earth Science Outreach team will be running other fun, fossil-flavoured activities.
The Redcar Rocks Fossil Safari is pitched at a family audience, and is aimed at ages 6 and upwards. Everyone aged 6 and over who wishes to take part in the Fossil Safari will need their own ticket. A child aged 5 and under can come along without a ticket if accompanied by a paying adult. Please notify us when booking if you wish to do this, so we know how many people to expect.
All funds raised by the Redcar Rocks Fossil Safari go to Earth Science Outreach UK, a new charity supporting young people and communities in disadvantaged regions to discover the amazing Earth heritage on their doorstep.
