AUTHOR EVENT: historical fiction writer Michael Gervais

Come meet historical fiction writer Michael Gervais on Wednesday, August 20th 6:00pm at the Library outside (if rain, we will move to the Readfield Union Meeting House). Michael will discuss his debut historical novel, The Ways of Heaven. Books will be available for sale/signing at the event.

About the book: A real-life Maine girl endures a tempest of heartache in a sea of desperate hope. Only the serendipitous occurrences that accompany each loss protect her from a headlong plunge into abysmal despair. The novel, based on the star-crossed life of Annie Goodwin, who once resided in the author's home, is full of period images woven into the underpinnings of the story that give the reader a strong impression of mid-nineteenth century life and a sense of divine transcendence.

About the author: Michael Gervais is a history teacher at Cushnoc Academy in Chelsea, Maine. He has a background in education, a Master’s in clinical counseling, and is a lifelong musician and composer. He and his wife Carrie live in the 1840’s farmhouse that once belonged to the ill-fated Goodwin family whose story is told in this novel. The Gervais have three adult children; Theresa, Gabriel, and Ian, as well as three, crazy Australian Shepherds who keep any ghosts at bay.
