Taenga, Paintings from the Arrival Series, by Mike Depree

"This is a selection of pictures from the Arrival series, an ongoing meditation about Life, Identity and Mortality.
The recurring image of the Waka, or boat, is intended as a metaphor for, amongst other things, the body as a vessel which carries us through our journey.
It is also to represent the universal human experience of arrival, that all people, their forbears or ancestors, came to Aotearoa from somewhere else, themes which will be developed as the series continues."
