About the event

Juneteenth Presentation
Community welcome! Located on the UNM-Taos Klauer Campus, 1157 County Rd. 110, in Padre Martinez Hall ABCD.

Explore the historical formation and transformation of a cultural celebration into the national holiday of Juneteenth! This presentation will cover issues of freedom for the enslaved, as well as the chaos and confusion following the period of liberation. We will also focus on sovereignty with a discussion of critical areas of the sustainment of culture, religion, music, food, family, and community, which are the outcroppings of freedom and liberty for the formerly
enslaved. Everyone is welcome at this free community presentation!
