Introduction to Hydroponics & Deep Water Culture

Deep water culture (DWC) is a relatively simple and effective way to grow crops or decorative plants quickly without a large up-front cost or massive amounts of equipment.

Fifth Season Gardening will lead an 1.5 hour class on constructing simple DWC apparatuses and participants will walk away with a complete (1) plant 5 gallon setup which includes the required air pump hardware and tubing.

Class will include explanations of nutrient solution mixing and different growth substrates.

If you’ve been curious about growing hydroponically but have been overwhelmed with getting started, this is the perfect class for you!

If you've never grown any food indoors, or tried unsuccessfully, then this class is just for you!

Some reasons to grow indoors include:

• Year-round ability to cultivate plants; including those from climates outside our own
• Significantly reduced pressures from pests & pathogens
• Increased yields due to ability to more intensively plant
• A great option for those that have limited access to outdoor growing space
• Can be less physically demanding than outdoor gardening
• At scale, a promising solution to many of the problems presented by global food supply chains...efficiently grown indoor crops can be local anywhere
