Halloween night gets a historic twist!
On Friday 31 October 2025, the ancient grounds of St Paul’s Catacombs will open after dark for a one-of-a-kind overnight camp from 19:00 until 08:30.
Adventurers aged 12+ are invited to pitch their tents right in the catacomb grounds’ unique ambience, to spend the night where Malta’s past still whispers.
Set up your camp from 18:00, then get ready for an evening packed with eerie activities:
19:00 – Curator’s welcome and night-time briefing
19:30 – The ‘Lemuria’ ritual, a recreation of an ancient Roman rite to chase away restless spirits
20:00 – Screening of Heritage Malta’s ‘Malta Oskura – Rabat and Mdina’, uncovering the darker side of local history
20:30 – Guided night tour of the catacombs, discover hidden areas usually closed to the public.
21:30 – Picnic dinner (bring your own food, or have it delivered) and torchlit ghost stories under the stars.
When it’s time to sleep, your tent above ground is the only safe spot – no one sleeps inside the catacombs themselves.
At dawn, a continental breakfast (07:00–08:00) will fuel you before tents are cleared by 09:00.
Tickets cost €40 for adults, €35 for concessions, and €30 for Heritage Malta members. Available online or at any Heritage Malta site or museum.
What to bring: Your own tent, sleeping bag, torch, and camping essentials.
Disclaimer: No cooking, open flames, or underground sleeping allowed. The event will be conducted in English.
