Rockaway Spring Beach Cleanup hosted by Project Rescue Ocean NY & JBRPC

Project Rescue Ocean is a non-governmental organization (NGO) recognized as being of public interest and a member of the UNESCO Clubs. Its mission is to protect the marine environment, coastlines, and biodiversity.

Launched in 2025, the New York branch organizes wild waste collection initiatives and leads awareness campaigns on pollution affecting beaches and waterways.

Jamaica Bay - Rockaway Parks Conservancy is a public-private partnership established in 2013 to preserve and restore the 10,000 acres of public parkland accross the area, ensuring long-term sustainability of parks, wetlands and wildlife habitats for residents and visitors.

Event Overview: To mark the launch of its NYC branch, Project Rescue Ocean is organizing a Spring beach cleanup in collaboration with the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy.

Purpose: The primary goal of the event is to clean up the beach, promote environmental awareness, and foster community engagement. By removing plastic and other debris from the shoreline, the initiative aims to protect marine life and maintain the health of the ocean ecosystem.

Key Activities:

• Beach Cleanup: Volunteers will gather to collect trash, including plastic waste, cigarette butts, and other debris from the beach. This effort will not only improve the aesthetic appeal of the beach but will also prevent harmful materials from entering the ocean and affecting marine wildlife.
• Educational Sessions: Participants will learn about the impact of marine debris on the environment and the importance of sustainable practices. The event will highlight the significance of reducing, reusing, and recycling to minimize waste.
• Community Engagement: The collaboration with local organizations and the involvement of volunteers will strengthen community bonds and encourage collective responsibility towards environmental conservation.
