Music @ The Bunker - Capo Creek w/ Chris O'Connor

Capo Creek are coming back to The Bunker and they never fail to entertain. This exciting duo switch seamlessly between poignant ballads (murder ballads even), acoustic blues and foot stomping outlaw country. Their performances of songs from their debut album Running Out were a smash hit at this year’s Cobargo Folk Festival, just like they were before sellout audiences at Smith’s Alternative and their last appearance right here at The Bunker. This time round, Capo Creek will not only be delighting us once more with those great songs but will also introduce some newly written original numbers – for The Bunker audience first before anywhere else. And there will be more of their much-loved creative acoustic reworkings of well-known blues, rock and country anthems. Capo Creek will be joined on stage for part of their show by some of Canberra’s finest musicians. We’re talking fiddle, dobro, pedal steel, upright bass and more. And if that’s not enough, they plan to record this Bunker gig with the view to a possible live album release. From the NSW South Coast, Chris O’Connor has had an enduring fascination with the blues of the 1920s and 30s masters, from players such as Son House, Willie McTell and Blind Blake. He uses a small bodied 6 string guitar, a rich deep 12 string and a well-worn steel bodied National resonator to accompany his renditions of vintage blues songs. In performance, his varied repertoire ranges from string-snapping delta blues to hypnotic minor key laments, gospel shouts, slide guitar instrumentals and ragtime songs with sparkling finger picked accompaniment. O’Connor has been well received at major East Coast blues and folk festivals and in 2014 he represented the Sydney Blues Society at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis.
