THEATRE INTENSIVE Residential Workshop

THEATRE INTENSIVE is a 7 days residential workshop at the beautiful Shivar Arts Residency Space, just 1 hour away from Pune.

      6 pm to 9 pm (Screening Session)

What will you learn:

This is a 7 days intensive masterclass in the field of performance with in-depth practical training for voice, body and the mind. With the help of various acting techniques, like Clowning, Meisner and Physical Theatre, the facilitator of the workshop, Rushikesh, trains the actors to develop their acting skills in a fun but rigorous setting. He specializes in teaching and performing Shakespeare, which will be one of the important modules of this workshop.

The 7 days and 10 hours per day training will involve physical theatre training and character work, and will be focused on devising a performance that will be showcased after the workshop in a theatre in Pune. All you need to get is a disciplined and focused mind, and a ready to learn attitude.

Everyday post 6 pm we will have a screening session, in which you will get to watch archival performance footage, plays, films and interviews on acting from great maestros from around the world. Most of this footages are archives are are not available publicly.

Timetable for all the 7 days:

8:00 am to 8:45 am : Breakfast

9:00 am to 12:00 noon : Training session

12:00 pm to 1:00 pm: Lunch

1:00 pm to 2:00 pm : Wind down.

2:00 pm to 6:00 pm : Devising and Rehearsals Session

6:00 pm Tea/Coffee Snacks.

6:00 pm to 9:00 pm : Dinner alongside Screening session to watch resource materials for training.

9:00 pm: Wrap up for the day.

11:00 pm: Lights out.

After we finish the workshop we have plans to showcase the Performances that we will be creating during the workshop, in a theatre space in Pune. This showcase will be presented on 18th June. (The showcase date is subject to change, depending on the participant`s travelling arrangements back to their cities after the workshop.)

What facilities are provided at the residency:

1. Food (Breakfast+ Lunch + Dinner)

2. Accommodation (A clean mattress + Blanket + Bedsheet)

3. Small kitchen setup for simple meals like tea or coffee according to anyone`s needs.

4. Two separate clean and hygienic washrooms.

5. Travelling arrangements to the space from Pune and vice versa. (One pick-up and drop point will be decided a few days before the workshop)

What you need to get:

1. Comfortable clothing for easy and flexible physical movement.

2. The space is located in a lush green environment which may lead to coldness in the surroundings. So you must carry some warm clothing and an extra blanket according to your convenience.

The total fee for the 7 days residential workshop is ₹15,000/-

About RUSHIKESH:

He is a trained actor, director and designer, with a Bachelor`s in Theatre from Lalit Kala Kendra (Gurukul), University of Pune, India and a Masters in Theatre & Performance pathways from Goldsmiths, University of London, UK. With almost 15 years of experience in theatre in English, Hindi, Marathi and Tamil theatre, Rushikesh has a passion to bring a positive change in the theatre industry of our country. He has been rigorously trained in acting by famous acting trainers like Ashwini Giri (India), in physical theatre by Anna Borras (Spain), in performing Shakespeare by Geoffrey Hyland (SA) and in Clowning by Stephen Sobal (UK). He came back to India with a dream to revolutionize the theatre industry and started sharing his skills with anyone who is desperate to learn and grow. He is a visiting faculty member for theatre arts at FLAME UNIVERSITY, Pune.

Rushikesh specializes in performing Shakespeare and he also has a skill to make Shakespeare enjoyable for the South Asian audience. He has created two Shakespeare plays in Hindi in the last 3 years. He created `Pyaar Jaana Pehchana`, which is a re-imagined version of Shakespeare`s rom-com, `As You Like It`. He the went ahead to become the first Indian artist to create the first documented performance of Shakespeare`s last political tragedy, `Coriolanus`. He has a book for turning a beginner in theatre into a confident performer on stage.
