The Distant South are teaming up with dear musical friends - Rick and Vanessa Hart for an incredible night of original AltCountry and Roots music at Barton fink Bar on Friday the 15th of August.
The Distant South are an AltCountry band based in Melbourne Australia. Their songs make you wonder if you’ve been whispering to them in your sleep. Confessional, authentic and immediately relatable, The Distant South throw the sounds of Country, Folk, Blues and Soul into the fiery pit of angst and heartache to deliver captivating performances of melancholic….yet somehow uplifting songs. With 2 EP’s and a full length album under their belt, in 2025 The Distant South are busy in the studio recording their second Album.

This multi award winning songwriter (2014 Songwriter of the Year, Australian Songwriters Association awards), seamlessly weaves country, soul, blues, rock’n’roll and folk to create a soundscape all his own. With influences of the likes of the Rolling Stones, The Band, Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard, Gram Parsons, Tom Petty and Springsteen, shining through.
After a lengthy hiatus, this Melbourne alt country troubadour released his long awaited third album “In The Midnight Sky Alone” in early 2024, his most heartfelt and introspective offering to date.
Of the new album, co-producer and renowned Australian artist/songwriter Lachlan Bryan (Lachlan Bryan and The Wildes, The Pleasures) said,
“Rick Hart writes and delivers beautiful country songs - they are
thoughtful, poignant, heartbreaking and smart. I wanted to work on this record because I already
believed every word he sings, and after spending weeks in the studio with Rick and his guitar, I now KNOW them all to be true”
