Srdečně Vás zveme na výstavu Jiřího Marka Palimpsest, která představuje malbu jako prostor pro reflexi paměti, času a obrazového vnímání.
⚡V době, kdy obraz cirkuluje digitálním světem rychlostí datového toku a mizí dřív, než jej stihneme skutečně vnímat, se Jiří Marek uchyluje k malbě především jako k aktu ukotvení. Fyzické dílo pro něj není formálním reliktem, ale způsobem, jak znovu navázat vztah mezi okem, rukou a pamětí – jak se dotknout skutečnosti.
⚡Marek se se zjevným zaujetím probírá rozlehlým terénem kulturní suti, mísí současnost s historickými odkazy a čerpá z osobního i kolektivního vědomí. Každou nalezenou střepinu reality pečlivě zkoumá, nikoli proto, aby ji obnovil do původní podoby, ale aby naopak ještě více obnažil stopy jejího opotřebení. Jeho fascinace ruinami a snaha fixovat rozpad skrze malířský záznam odráží nejistotu naší existence, ale i touhu proniknout k podstatě věcí a skrze minulost jasněji nahlížet naši současnost a budoucnost.
⚡Inspirací mu je i pojem palimpsest, který do dějin umění přenesl americký teoretik Douglas Crimp. Stejně jako pergamenové rukopisy, kde nové zápisy nikdy zcela nevymazaly ty předchozí, i Markovy obrazy ukazují vrstvy významů, které se vzájemně prostupují. Každé plátno tak nese stopy procesu, zkratkovitosti a fragmentárnosti paměti – i stopy autorových vlastních korekcí a návratů k práci.

We warmly invite you to the exhibition Jiří Marek Palimpsest, which presents painting as a space for reflecting on memory, time, and visual perception.
⚡ In an age when images circulate through the digital world at the speed of data flow and disappear before we can truly perceive them, Jiří Marek turns to painting above all as an act of grounding. For him, the physical artwork is not a formal relic but a way to reconnect the eye, the hand, and memory – a way to touch reality.
⚡ With evident fascination, Marek sifts through the vast terrain of cultural debris, blending the present with historical references, drawing from both personal and collective consciousness. Each fragment of reality he examines carefully, not to restore it to its original form, but rather to further expose the traces of its wear. His fascination with ruins and his effort to fix decay through painterly record reflect the uncertainty of our existence, but also the desire to penetrate the essence of things and, through the past, to view our present and future with greater clarity.
⚡ His inspiration also draws on the concept of the palimpsest, introduced into art history by American theorist Douglas Crimp. Just as on parchment manuscripts where new inscriptions never fully erased the earlier ones, Marek’s paintings reveal layers of meaning that permeate one another. Each canvas thus carries the marks of process, the shortcuts and fragmentariness of memory – as well as traces of the artist’s own revisions and returns to the work.
