Monthly Modal Music Jam

Every first Wednesday of the month, there is a modal music jam in Punctum organised by @modalmusic.cz collective. We have made it our quest to find and connect musicians from various modal music traditions living in and around Prague, and to learn from each other and expand our horizons in music.
Do not hesitate to come and join if you are interested. Audience is also welcome, don't worry if you don't play, or if you're not sure if we know the songs you do!

Please note that everyone is warmly welcome to join the jam, but please take the time to learn at least a few songs and basic modes so that you can really take part in the music. This is not a jazz jam session, and being able to improvise on your instrument is not a sufficient qualification. Modal music is a vague and wide category spanning from music of the Indian subcontinent to the Middle east and then all the way to the many cultures and traditions around the Mediterranean Sea.
In those places, many musical traditions are based on melody and rhythm, which allows them to explore intervals and scales very different from those common in largely harmony-based Western music. We're trying to build a community of musicians who are interested in learning and performing any such music. If you know anyone, please do get in touch.
