The Surfer + Q&A with Kathryn Hume-Čvančarová | Movie Barf Monday

Movie Barf Monday is a film night dedicated to screening English-friendly films in Prague's Edison Filmhub. Every film features an introduction from film presenter Ryan Keating as well as a discussion with a special guest.

A man returns with his son to the remote, idyllic beach where he grew up and spent his happiest days surfing. But the local surfers have a different opinion and a clear message: "You don't live here – don't surf here!" The conflict, which started as an innocent argument, begins to escalate. Humiliation quickly turns to aggression. Tension, ridicule and cruelty grow as fast as the sweltering temperatures of the hot summer. Neither side is willing to back down, and the growing madness drives them to the brink. A planned summer holiday soon becomes a fight for survival...

Lorcan Finnegan's psychological thriller THE SURFER tells a nerve-wracking tale of confronting the past, clashing cultures and the struggle for personal freedom. Nicolas Cage excels in the lead role, giving one of the best performances of his career. Filming took place on the west coast of Australia, including the Yallingup and Margaret River areas, giving the film the inimitable atmosphere of Australia's famous beaches.
