🧑🧑🧒🧒 Royal Tenenbaum a jeho žena Etheline žijí se svými dvěma syny a adoptivní dcerou ve velkém domě na Manhattanu a zdá se, že rodině vůbec nic nechybí. Ovšem jen do té chvíle, kdy Royal, velký milovník žen a života, rodinu opustí. To se stalo před dvaadvaceti lety. Teď je Royal bez peněz, a tak si vymyslí smrtelnou nemoc a apeluje na soucit svých bližních. Horší okamžik si ale pro svůj návrat vybrat nemohl. Etheline právě dostala seriózní nabídku k sňatku a již dospělé děti mají dost starostí samy se sebou...
Proslulý filmový solitér a hračička Wes Anderson rozdělil děj filmu do jednotlivých kapitol mapujících etapy života Tenenbaumových. Jde mu nejen o Royalovo pozdní prozření, ale i o reakci ostatních členů rodiny, protože návrat nezdárného otce vyvolává léta zasuté vzpomínky a traumata. Příběh nabitý břitkými dialogy a melancholickým humorem umocňují Andersonova příslovečně výrazná výtvarná a střihově-gagová stránka filmu a výborné herecké výkony. Ostatně Gene Hackman si za své ztvárnění svérázné hlavy rodiny tehdy odnesl prestižní Zlatý glóbus.

🧑🧑🧒🧒 Royal Tenenbaum (Gene Hackman) and his wife, Etheline (Anjelica Huston), had three children—Chas, Margot, and Richie—and then they separated. Chas (Ben Stiller) started buying real estate in his early teens and seemed to have an almost preternatural understanding of international finance. Margot (Gwyneth Paltrow) was a playwright and received a Braverman Grant of $50,000 in the ninth grade. Richie (Luke Wilson) was a junior champion tennis player and won the U.S. Nationals three years in a row. Virtually all memory of the brilliance of the young Tenenbaums was subsequently erased by two decades of betrayal, failure, and disaster. The Royal Tenenbaums is a hilarious, touching, and brilliantly stylized study of melancholy and redemption from Wes Anderson.
