🎬 Insight into the creative collaboration behind Denis Villeneuve’s films
We invite you to a film talk with editor Joe Walker and storyboard artist Sam Hudecki, long-time collaborators of Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. Their joint work spans several of Villeneuve’s most acclaimed films, including Sicario, Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, Dune, and Dune: Part Two.

The discussion will explore the creative process from the early stages of previsualization to the final cut — from initial sketches and storyboards to the rhythm and structure of the finished film. Walker and Hudecki will share how their respective roles intersect and contribute to shaping Villeneuve's distinctive cinematic style's tone, pace, and clarity.
This is a rare opportunity to hear directly from two professionals whose behind-the-scenes work has been central to some of the most visually and narratively ambitious films of recent years. The talk will be held in English.

Joe Walker is a British film editor whose work has been widely recognised across the international film industry. He won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Dune (2021) and has received multiple Oscar and BAFTA nominations for Arrival, 12 Years a Slave, and Dune: Part Two. Known for his long-term collaborations with Denis Villeneuve and Steve McQueen, Walker is regarded for his ability to shape complex narratives with precision, structure, and emotional impact.
Sam Hudecki is a Canadian storyboard artist whose collaboration with Denis Villeneuve spans some of the director’s most iconic films, including Sicario, Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, and both Dune films. Hudecki’s ability to translate complex scripts into vivid visual sequences has made him a vital part of Villeneuve’s creative process. His storyboards serve as blueprints for the films’ cinematic language, blending artistic vision with technical clarity. Sam’s work offers a rare bridge between imagination and execution, helping shape the tone, tension, and tempo of each scene before a single frame is shot. His storyboards for Blade Runner 2049 are featured in The Art and Soul of Blade Runner 2049, the official companion book to the film, which documents the film’s development from concept to final execution.

Renomovaný britský střihač Joe Walker je znám svou dlouholetou spoluprací s dvěma předními filmovými režiséry současnosti – Steve McQueenem a Denisem Villeneuvem. Vystudoval klasickou hudbu a svůj rytmický a skladební talent přenesl jako filmový střihač do filmů Hlad, Stud, 12 let v řetězech, Sicario, Příchozí nebo Blade Runner 2049. Jeho práce byla oceněna a nominována na řadu prestižních filmových cen, včetně Oscara za nejlepší filmový střih v roce 2022 pro snímek Duna.
