About the International Choral q̓at̓ᶿaymɩxʷ
Since its inception in 1984, Kathaumixw—meaning “a gathering together of different peoples”—has grown into one of North America’s premier biennial choral festivals. Initially drawing around 400 singers, it now routinely brings over 1,200 voices from across the world to qathet Region.
Each five-day celebration features:
A rich lineup of concerts (16 events across venues)
Vocal solo and choir competitions judged by an elite international jury
Dynamic conductor seminars, community-church outreach, and shared singing experiences
A magnificent Gala Closing Concert uniting massed choirs—sometimes exceeding 1,000 singers
The festival’s success is rooted in qathet Region’s supportive community, with volunteers hosting choirs and opening their hearts to guests from everywhere
