Based on the best-selling pair of memoirs from father and son David and Nic Sheff, Beautiful Boy chronicles the heartbreaking and inspiring experience of survival, relapse, and recovery in a family coping with addiction over many years. This film features Steve Carell, Timothée Chalamet, Maura Tierney & Amy Ryan. It is Rated R due to drug use.
This film was selected by youth as one of importance to share:
"David and Nic Sheff are definitely 2 of my favorite authors. The movie is an adaptation of David Sheff's book by the same name! I chose Beautiful Boy to be shown for this event because it covers a subject that is quite touchy in qathet right now. People are often quick to judge, and don't take into account what people who use drugs may have experienced. I think this film is a good way to influence empathy towards those without homes and those who use drugs. We are all human after all!" ~Rowan L. Welp
Reaction to the film by a local parent: "Beautiful Boy brought up a lot of emotions in me... and helped me to better understand addiction from a youth's point of view and a parent's as well.
You can really FEEL the reality of the safety aspects / harm reduction when those crucial moments are portrayed in the film. I'm so glad youth will have easy access to mental health and substance use services at Foundry qathet. So much has changed since I was a teen."
