“This 1976 competition between the wines of California from the state’s emerging wineries and the long-established top wines of France shocked the world and established California wines as worthy of global recognition,” says Parente, a certified specialist on wine and wine appreciation. Her talk “delves into the remarkable back stories behind the challenge and the key figures in California history whose roles and contributions to California’s pre-eminence on the world economic stage remain legendary to this day.”
