neu waves presents summer series with Tugboat Captain with support from Conor Clements and TBA at The Deco
// Tugboat Captain //
As David Byrne famously said, “home, that’s where I want to be”, and this is a sentiment that’s shared by London-based purveyors of Baroque indie-pop, Tugboat Captain. Their new album, ‘Dog Tale’ is a record built around the multidimensional idea of home. On the one hand it finds chief lyricist, Sox, musing on the ephemeral nature of living in London in your mid-late twenties, and on the other it’s an album that was written and recorded in the band’s spiritual home and recording studio, Ctrl P ,which Sox and bassist Joshua Cobb run together.
// The Roebucks //
The Roebucks are a four piece from Brighton whose idiosyncratic take on an alt-country / Americana sound is at times woozy and tender, at other times earthy and bluesy. Lush three-part harmonies interlace with Dwayne Allman-esque riffs and the tightest of rhythm sections to conjure up their own uniquely warm take on a familiar genre. The band have been wowing audiences up and down the country in 2024, and recent appearances have included festival slots at Black Deer Festival and Mutations Festival, as well as high profile support slots with the likes of The Heavy Heavy and Langkamer.
Signed to Goo Records in October 2024, they released their first single ‘Great British Pig’ with the label in February 2025, receiving excellent press and radio support, including plays from Cerys Matthews for BBC 6 Music and John Kennedy for Radio X. Having already played a packed show at this year’s sold out Homegrown Festival in Brighton this April, the band have official slots at Wanderlust Festival and The Great Escape Festival in May 2025
// Conor Clements //
Perhaps known to some for being the frontman and primary songwriter of art-punk band Hallan, Conor has recently came to attention writing and performing his own original material. Releasing the single "A Spoonful of Sugar" in 2022, the Portsmouth based artist garnered a small and unexpected following after the track received over 50,000 streams on Spotify. Subsequently, he is back with his band performing live and releasing new material.
This new audible vehicle allows the songwriter to take on a fresh and more intimate form, sharing with his audience a more personal side to his songwriting. Reflecting his own musical taste and inspirations more accurately than ever, Clements' solo material embraces a new found sense of freedom and brings with it both renewed enthusiasm and warm character.
