WYRD WAR'S SUMMER BUMMER DOUBLE FEATURE WITH WILLIAM LUSTIG!

𝐖𝐘𝐑𝐃 𝐖𝐀𝐑’𝐒 𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐑 𝐁𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐑 𝐃𝐎𝐔𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄 returns with a bang in July with special guest filmmaker and champion of grindhouse cinema William Lustig in attendance!

𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐀𝐂 (1980) was Lustig’s breakout shocker that took unprepared movie goers by force. Acclaimed character actor Joe Spinell dives headfirst into his role as Frank Zito, a tormented loner who is compelled to stalk (and scalp) women through the streets, motels and subways of New York City in a desperate attempt to quiet the voices in his troubled mind. Outrageously promoted and vehemently protested, 𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐀𝐂 is now regarded as one of the most disturbing psychological horror films of its time. Showcasing practical effects by Tom Savini, this is shot-on-location guerrilla filmmaking at its unhinged best.

𝐕𝐈𝐆𝐈𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐄 (1982) is Lustig’s wildly entertaining 𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘪𝘰𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘪 homage set in a crime-ridden Big Apple and starring a cast of charismatic luminaries including Fred Williamson, Joe Spinell and Robert Forster, who form a clandestine crime-fighting unit and take on a vicious street gang that is terrorizing the neighborhood. Brilliantly scored by Jay Chattaway and the Afro-Cuban Fania All-Stars, 𝐕𝐈𝐆𝐈𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐄 is the ass kicking celluloid equivalent of a three night bender at Studio 54. Without the side effects and nasty hangover.

𝐖𝐘𝐑𝐃 𝐖𝐀𝐑’𝐒 𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐑 𝐁𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐑 𝐃𝐎𝐔𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄 is an ongoing series that pairs directors with two of their favorite feature films with the intention of delving deeper into the craft of movie making. William Lustig will join Dennis Dread on stage before and between films to discuss his 50 year career.
