The next practica will be 7pm on Wednesday, June 25th at Maine Center for Taijiquan and Qigong. There is parking space near the entrance at the rear of the building. Note that there is no longer a practica next week. We now publish our events on a calendar you can import.
This is still a space for dancers to practice and experiment with new concepts, moves, or sticking points. Working consistently with other dancers to build skills is one of the best ways to immediately improve your dancing, no matter your experience level!

🎓 How practicas work:
At the start of the session, organizers will offer practice prompts. We'll also check in with dancers. If folks have specific topics they want to work on, we'll have people share and find others to work with, either in couples or larger groups. There's no need to bring a topic, but you do need to bring a spirit of experimentation and collaboration. After this check-in, we'll run a crash course for anyone who would like a little more guidance.
For the first hour, music will be low-key enough for discussion to happen on the dance floor. For the second hour, we'll turn up the music for open dancing and continued practice. Asking for and providing feedback is encouraged!
🫱🏻🫲🏽 How we practice together:
Learn with curiosity. Everyone’s learning, and that’s the fun part. Share ideas, ask questions, and be open to new perspectives.
Engage as equals. Invite others into the conversation and treat every partner as an equal – this isn’t a proving ground, but a collaborative space. Ask before offering feedback.
Uplift each other. Celebrate progress and discoveries. Our focus is on shared growth and uplifting each other as we learn together.
Our practicas are consent-driven and gender-free. For details, please check our code of conduct. You will be asked to review it when you check in.
📌 Things to know:
Please bring water and clean soft-soled shoes or wear socks. No street shoes are allowed in the studio -- help us keep our dance floor beautiful.
Everyone is invited to dance with everyone, and we encourage everyone to try leading, following, and switching.
