Emerald Ash Borer Info Session with the Oregon Dept. of Forestry at Stark

Join the Oregon Department of Forestry Urban & Community Forestry Program for an informational class on the emerald ash borer beetle. Emerald ash borer (EAB) is an invasive and highly destructive wood boring beetle that infests and kills ash trees. EAB was first detected in Oregon in 2022 and was just confirmed in Portland in September 2025. Ash trees are common in both urban and natural environments in Oregon, providing essential ecosystem services like shade, erosion control, air and water filtration, and unique habitat. While EAB poses a significant threat to these trees, we're fortunate to draw on over 20 years of research and experience from the Midwest and East Coast to slow its spread and mitigate its inevitable impacts to ecosystems, economies, and public health. This presentation will help home gardeners understand how to identify, plan for, and manage EAB and ash trees in their communities.

***Classes this fall will be held in our Greenhouse1, which is located in the main courtyard, right across from the store. It is a large greenhouse that functions as a covered outdoor area. If the weather is cold, we will have heaters going, but please remember to dress so that you are comfortable during the presentation.***
