Join us on Wednesday, October 22 as we commemorate 100 years of one of Portland’s most distinctive landmarks: the Seth Thomas street clock, located just outside The Francis Hotel.
Installed in 1925 to mark the 25th anniversary of Hay & Peabody, this rare four-dial street clock—crafted by the legendary Seth Thomas Clock Company—has quietly witnessed a century of change in Portland’s West End. Thanks to a community-led restoration effort, it stands today as a beautifully preserved symbol of craftsmanship, history, and neighborhood pride.
To mark this milestone, we invite you to gather across the street at Five of Clubs starting at 5:00pm, with remarks beginning at 5:30pm from representatives of The Francis, the Maine Historical Society, and Greater Portland Landmarks.
Guests are also encouraged to stop by The Francis before or after the toast to view “100 Years, 100 Works”—a special exhibition of community-submitted artworks inspired by the clock, displayed throughout the month of October.
