Greendrinks Beaufort July 2025 Gathering

WHO: John Alexander, Operations Manager of St. Phillips Island with the South Carolina State Park Service. John leads the stewardship and public engagement of one of the Lowcountry’s most ecologically and historically significant barrier islands. He holds a degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Kent State University and has a diverse background, having served as an Assistant Park Ranger, Park Ranger I, and General Manager of Coastal Expeditions in Beaufort. John is also a U.S. Coast Guard 25-ton Master Captain and a certified Level II Kayak Instructor. He has been the manager of St Phillips for nearly 6 months and looks forward to increasing visitation to the island and facilitating research projects to enhance our understanding of this National Natural Landmark.

WHAT: This presentation will explore St. Phillips Island, a National Natural Landmark that stands as a true gem of the Lowcountry. The talk will delve into the island’s history, unique ecological features, from its diverse flora to its rich wildlife, and highlight the preservation efforts that protect this exceptional habitat. Attendees will also learn about various ways to access the island, including guided tours and special programs that allow visitors to experience its natural beauty firsthand.
