OVERWHELMED: The 'SEASON OF ANANSI FOLKLORE FESTIVAL' has been invited by the Merseyside International Centre for Caribbean Carnival Arts & Black Imagination (MICCABI) to replicate the Anansi Festival in the historic city of Liverpool, UK, in October 2025 for Black History Month.
It is a phenomenal opportunity for Anansi & Brand T&T, & I am grateful. But at the same time we are still running down monies owed to the Festival that finished weeks ago... It was an extraordinary Festival & we did what we set out to do, but- it was, by turns, beautiful & brutal. I dont recall it ever being this hard financially & energetically as a Creative or as a citizen in quite some time.
For the first time in a long time I have to confess- I am overwhelmed. It is a personal, local, & global Moment of Extremes. Extremes of manifesting work under extreme pressure, and Extremes of drought & opportunities.
For this & for creative reasons I'm inviting you all to my Exhibition 'WORLD WIDE WEB- ANANSI GOES TO ENGLAND' from Thurs 17th- Monday 21st July at 101 Art Gallery, 84 Woodord Street, Newtown. Opening night Thurs 17th 5-9pm. Many new & old paintings, books, & objects will be for sale, & we will be doing a Retrospecrive of this year's Anansi Festival. My 'Exhibition' earlier on this year was a public Artist-in-Residency- this is a full-on Rubadiri Victor Exhibition. Expect the bells & whistles...
This UK invitation for the Anansi Festival culminated a phenomenal 2025 version of the Festival where we battled to expand the footprint and the impact of the Festival. With 9 newspaper articles and thousands of attendees in a myriad of events, & with many legendary international participants we fought for our vision. Help us pay it off and forward to Liverpool!!!
I.am dedicating this Exhibition to Christopher Pinheiro, my very close friend & Mentor in painting. Strangely enough it was my first day of obsessive painting- 16 hours straight- when I got the news of his passing. It was fitting. I was even being more adventurous with colour- the Spirit of Chris & his nagging Legacy in my ear. Rest in Peace Swami..
