Staying Steady: Navigating Aggression and De-escalation Through the Therapist’s Nervous System

Description:

A one-day, trauma-informed workshop designed for therapists working with clients who become aggressive, shut down, or otherwise dysregulated in session. Drawing on Internal Family Systems (IFS) principles, Polyvagal Theory, and relational neurobiology, the workshop will explore practical de-escalation tools while focusing on the therapist’s internal system and nervous system regulation as the foundation for safety and repair.

Learning Goals:

Understand the role of the therapist’s nervous system in moments of escalation
Apply Polyvagal Theory and IFS concepts to real-time regulation and rupture repair
Identify and work with internal parts that may be activated in conflict or threat
Explore non-verbal de-escalation tools rooted in embodied presence
