This is a Second Saturday Art Walk Event sponsored by the Port Angeles Arts Council
Hammering Heathens, the creative partnership of local artists and metalsmiths Matt Gomez and Eli Owens, will be the featured artists at Anime Kat during the upcoming Second Saturday Art Walk on June 14, from 5 PM to 8 PM, in downtown Port Angeles.
Hosted by the Port Angeles Art Council, the Second Saturday Art Walk is a community celebration of local artistry — and this month, Hammering Heathens will take center stage at Anime Kat with a striking collection of hand-forged fixed-blade knives, laser-etched ceramic tile art, custom leatherwork, and other original creations. Matt and Eli will be present to meet visitors, share their creative process, and offer work for sale, including options for custom commissions.
Formed in 2023, Hammering Heathens LLC began as a creative refuge from the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic. What started as an escape quickly evolved into a full-fledged artistic passion. Though both artists had long been intrigued by blacksmithing, it wasn’t until the pandemic hit that they took up the hammer and forge.
During the June 14 event, Matt and Eli will be on-site to discuss their diverse artistic pursuits, including bladesmithing, leather sheath-making, laser engraving, and more. Attendees can expect hands-on insights into their methods and tools, as well as the opportunity to purchase unique, handcrafted items or commission one-of-a-kind pieces
