Celebrate the beauty and biodiversity of sand dunes with a hands-on BioBlitz adventure designed for families.
This immersive event invites nature lovers of all ages to explore Studland’s sand dunes and discover the plants and animals that call these special landscapes home. Find out how the dunes are formed and how we survey for different species.
Event Highlights include guided group activities-
• Mini-Beast Hunts with Sweep Nets – Search for fascinating invertebrates hiding among the dunes, using sweep nets to gently collect and observe them.
• Plant surveys with Dorset Flora Group – find out which plants thrive in the nutrient poor dunes and the vital role they play.
• Pond dipping- check out what our staff member can find in one of the dune ponds and learn about following ID guides.
• Butterfly transects – walking a set route, we will see how many different species we can record along the way.
There will also be self-guided activities including a heather walk challenge, woodland walk spotter sheets and a beach scavenger hunt. Learn through adventure and build a deeper connection with nature, while celebrating the vital role of sand dunes in coastal ecosystems.
Follow the signs from the Knoll Beach Visitor Reception to the event base in the dunes.
Wear sturdy footwear for mixed and uneven terrain. Dress for the weather and remember sun cream and water bottles.
